My name is Lissette Crespo, and I am from Havana, Cuba. I came to the United States at 10 months with my family and I have lived in this country ever since. Not being a citizen has caused a lot of struggles for my parents and my family as a whole. Now that I am 18 years old, I am starting to see…
Hi guys, so my name is Lissette! So this can come as a shock for some people but I was born in Cuba and came to the United States when I turned 10 months old. I haven’t returned ever since, so the US has always been my home. So this also means I am not a citizen. Many of us don’t know what it means to be a citizen because we only think it means we can vote, but really there are so many things that I feel restricted from doing because I wasn’t born here. Don’t get me wrong, I take pride in being Cuban, but I want to take pride in being American as well. Unfortunately my parents haven’t been financially capable to pay to become a citizen (the price of sending the application is $680) and now in my school, a teacher has inspired me to do it regardless of the money. Now that I’m 18 years old, I can do this. Above is the link to donate any kind of money, any donation is GREATLY appreciated. I have always wanted to become a citizen because I currently have no country. But I just can’t wait to become part of this great nation.
